Not a Woman, Not a Man

I am a female with two X chromosomes. True, the differences in the #genetics of a male (XY) and a female (XX) create variations on certain biological and psychological aspects. Beautiful differences exist that make us complete each other and strengthen weaknesses in one another. However, at the end of the day, we are both humans.

“Woman” and “Man” are labels and set of characteristics society engraves in our minds, limiting our potential to strive as humans and live up to being the person we desire to be. Greatness is not found in only selected males and females who happen to influence the world before they leave it. Greatness is found in every single one of us, and so it’s in our hands to allow this #greatness within to grow and surpass the limitations society imposes on our manipulated minds.

 I am a human, not a gender.

It’s Women’s Day. I am a “Woman”, I believe in #empowering women, and I act upon it.

However, I disagree with the #discrimination imposed while fighting for women’s rights.

No one can deny the biological differences between men and women which give them different characteristics and hence different functions in the world then and now. However, such differences should not create a limit for either sex’s capabilities in achieving anything.

I am a human, not a gender. If I choose to be a person doing what society sets as the opposing sex’s role, then I shall be that person regardless. No one can limit your potential. No circumstance can set a path for you and oblige you to walk on it unwillingly. Only you do. You set your limits, draw your paths, and choose to either be your own human self, or give in to what society and “life” impose on you.

Some people are fighting for #equality between both genders, forgetting the fact that we are both humans.

So, instead of fighting for gender roles, they should be fighting for #humanity, self-belief, and self-empowerment as they raise awareness on their proper application within a society and towards other people. Hence, society will be helping individuals realize their own potential, not as genders, but as humans empowering one another.

Will society ever choose to do that though? Will society ever decide to let us realize the power each one of us has inside of him or her? Or will that let it lose its control and manipulation over us?
